The Demon of the Sands, Chapter 2

(Heuco Mundo, Year Later from Shinsei's Death)

When a human dies, their spirit is released into the area, connected with a Chain of Fate. This chain serves as a sort of timer, as it marks how much time they have before they become a Hollow. A Shinigami must find them and perform a Soul Burial in order to cleanse the spirit and send them to the Sereitei, where they will live in peace.

However, when a Soul is not found in time by a Shinigami, their Chain of Fate erodes, and transforms them into a Hollow, and their domain is far worse.

The Hollow's reside in Hueco Mundo, a savage and endless world of their own. It is a desert that never ceases, and it is always night. the crescent moon hanging high overhead. There is no life to be seen, at least at first glance. But in Hueco Mundo, life was abundant.

A low growl echoed through the dunes as a large dog-like Hollow stalked through them. Bone acted as a form of armor on it's hide, covering it's shoulders and back in crude spike-like protrusions and plating. It sniffed the ground, grinning. 

It raised it's head, staring at a set of fading tracks that trudged through the dunes, heading in no direction at all it seemed. "Hmmm...easy prey." The Hollow chuckled, and crouched down, it's muscles tensing before he released them, bounding after the creator of those tracks. "Stupid new Hollows, it's eat or be eaten out here and you are about to see that!!" He roared in laughter as he took off over the dunes.

(Hueco Mundo, End of the Tracks)

The beast lumbered forwards slowly, moving in a stupor almost. It's eyes darted around, looking for any hidden danger that might be around. It's senses were in overdrive, making the dull moonlight painful to his pupiless yellow orbs. He growled in rage, swiping at the moon blindly, but to no effect. It's mind, too broken to recognize this, let him swing absent-mindedly at it a few more times, before his arm, a powerful claw covered in black bone, dropped to it's side.

A sudden feeling of pressure made it's movements cease, and the beast slowly turned to look at the direction the source was coming from. It let out a predatory growl, it's tail swinging behind it's figure as the creature waited. 

(Hueco Mundo, End of the Tracks, Dog Hollow's POV)

"Almost there, just a few more strides and I will have me next meal..." The dog Hollow smirked, as it slowly slowed it's pace to a walk. It crept up the side of the final dune, feeling it's prey on the other side, just standing there. The Hollow frowned in thought. "It's just standing there....I know I didn't hide my reiatsu, but wouldn't a new Hollow be more afraid of a stronger one like me....?"

He dismisses the thought. "Eh, it doesn't matter. The poor sap will be dead in a few minutes anyway." 

The Hollow began to drool, and with greed in it's eyes it bounded up the final dune, stopping as it reached the top. It looked down at it's prey, and for a moment, an involuntary shiver ran down it's spine.

"A....A demon...."

The dog Hollow's prey stared up at him, a feral growl rising in it's throat. It's arms were clawing into the sand as it crouched, making it's large figure shrink. A powerful tail, covered in black bone like the rest of it's body and ending in a large spike, swished through the air softly. It bared it's teeth, all pointed and large, at the dog Hollow, saliva covering them and leaking from it's mouth. But what unnerved the Hollow was it's preys eyes. It was like the creature was looking right through him, as though he didn't exist.

The dog Hollow felt a moment of fear pass, before hunger took over. "You might look intimidating, but I'm going to show you what fear truly is!" The dog snarled and dashed at the demon Hollow. It roared in hunger and charged at the dog, hunger and rage filling it's bony features.

(Hueco Mundo, End of the Tracks, Shinsei's POV)

The demon Hollow roared, as red began to fill it's eyes, before blacking out in rage.

Screams of the dog Hollow. Red. White, covered in red. Teeth. Dripping. Scenes passed like a blur for it as the slaughter happened, before a wave of red filled his mind.

After a few minutes of silence, the red began to fade, little by little. The Hollow's dulled eyes looked around for the dog Hollow, not noticing it's torn carcass at it's feet. The dog Hollow had a look of terror and pain on it's face, or at least what was once it's face.

The smell of blood drew the Hollow's attention to it's prey, and for a moment it stood still, before his features became animated. It's tongue flicked out, licking the blood from it's lips, before it descended onto the corpse.

The demon greedily devoured the meal in front of it, ripping into it's flesh and tearing it away from the bone, savoring every morsel it tasted. Blood ran down it's lips and chest, driving it's senses wild and making it go into even more of a feeding frenzy. It growled in pleasure and hunger as it fed. Blood and bits of meat ran everywhere around them. 

Finally, after a few minutes, the creature growled, finished. Nothing remained of the poor Hollow, save for the pieces of meat and the blood that were scattered about. The demon stood, stretching it's limbs and tail out. A growl sounded out of the creatures stomach, and it looked around wildly, teeth bared at the new noise. He snarls and swings his claws around, trying to fight the unseen enemy. After a moment his stomach growled again, and he paused. He looked down, inspecting his gut with his eyes, before slowly touching it. The stomach growled, and it blinked. "H....Hun..gy..."

The beast looked up, and began to lumber forward again. As it walked, the creature's eyes dulled again, as it simply wandered forward, with no rhyme or reason, only a single, powerful hunger for more.
